Merhaba! We are Luke and Yankı, husband and wife and the two founders of Turkish Language Learning! Since we’ve spent so much time learning (or in Yankı’s case teaching) the Turkish language, we figured why not publish all of this hard work into a website for other Turkish learners to use. Turkish is not as popular as other languages, and as such, there are not as many resources out there for beginner Turkish learners to learn properly.
So, we decided to make the website that we wish we had access to while learning Turkish. Hopefully, other people can benefit from our hard work! For now, it is just the two of us, but we hope to add more contributors to our team over time, especially native Turkish speakers! Read more about us below:
Yankı
A native Turk Living In America
Merhaba! I’m Yankı and I’m happy to be contributing content to Turkish Language Learning! I am a violinist who grew up in Istanbul and moved to America for graduate school in 2014. While I do have a natural gift for learning new languages, learning English to move to America was quite a challenge! So, I understand and respect your struggles to learn a new language. I never appreciated how interestingly difficult learning Turkish might be for a foreigner until my American husband tried to learn it. However, I believe that over time anyone can learn any language if they find the right content and figure out their learning style.
I believe that learning a language and its respective culture are deeply connected. So, besides adding language learning content, I hope to provide insights into the uniqueness and beauty of Turkish culture from my personal experience growing up and living in Istanbul. I find my language beautiful, and I hope you will too!

Luke
American with 8 Years of Experience Learning Turkish
Hi, my name is Luke, and I am a musician and language enthusiast. Before 2015, I had never heard Turkish in my life and had no idea what kind of language it was. But, shortly after I began dating a Turkish person (my now wife Yankı), I decided to seriously try and learn her language. Since she was a new English speaker, I wanted to be able to use Turkish when we hung out. And, as our relationship became more serious, I realized I would have to speak Turkish to communicate with her family, most of whom did not know English.
So, once we decided on a 2016 trip to Turkey so that I could meet her family, I went all in on learning Turkish. There were growing pains, but over the years I have become comfortable understanding and expressing myself in Turkish. I have also been to Turkey four times and spent many months there, helping me to understand and appreciate the uniqueness and richness of Turkish culture.
Since I struggled so much to find the right resources for learning Turkish, I hope I can create the website I wish I had many years ago. As a music teacher, I hope my passion for teaching will help me to create engaging content. Plus, I hope compiling the materials for this site will further advance my Turkish skills!
