About Us And Our Mission
Welcome to Turkish Language Learning, where we hope to provide you with one of the best resources for learning Turkish at any level. Founded by husband and wife duo Luke and Yankı, our mission is to provide Turkish learners with the resources we wish we had when we were first learning the language.
Many Turkish learning resources out there have confusing translations or lack grammar explanations that make sense to native English speakers. Others fail to have native Turkish contributors who can give genuine examples of how actual Turks use the language.
So, we believe that our combination of a native Turkish speaker who grew up in Istanbul with a native English speaker who learned Turkish is the perfect balance for English speakers to learn Turkish in an easy, fun, and thorough manner.
How We Work
Our Approach
If you are like us, the textbook version of learning a language does not work very well. Sure, we can pick up some words and grammar from studying a textbook, but that approach never gave us the fluency to use a new language in the wild. So, our goal is to combine multiple approaches to language learning so that you can find what works best for you. For us, it is the combination of thoughtful grammar lessons, themed vocabulary, idioms, and real dialogues (including audio) that made Turkish transform from an intimidating foreign language to one that felt natural and made sense.

Real-Life Fluency
Our firsthand experience as English speakers learning Turkish informs our grammar guides, making them tailored for English speakers aiming to learn Turkish.

Turkish Culture
We believe that you cannot truly understand a language without understanding its culture. We include culture and etiquette guides to put the language in context.

Grammar
As annoying as grammar can be, it’s hard to become fluent without it. But our approach to grammar keeps it in the background so you can focus on speaking naturally.

Themed Vocabulary
Themed vocabulary lists make it easier to memorize words and how to use them. Plus, you can prioritize which types of words will be most useful for you!

Idioms
Turkish idioms and jokes are fantastic, and our lessons encompass these, along with slang terms, to capture the nuance of how real Turks communicate.

Real Dialogues
We have tons of real dialogues to help you convert conceptual knowledge into real-world examples. We will eventually include audio of each dialogue!
Our Journey
The founder of TLL is a native English speaker (American) who learned Turkish from scratch for his Turkish wife. In addition to learning the language, the regular trips to Turkey inform our lessons and guides to have an authentic approach with genuine dialogues and examples that apply to Turkish culture. We understand the unique challenges of learning a language like Turkish from English, and this website is our way of providing a high-quality Turkish guide that we couldn’t find when learning.
From the very first Duolingo lessons in 2015 to becoming a fluent Turkish speaker, we hope this genuine journey will make our lessons accessible and motivating.
Our Vision
Turkish Language Learning is more than just a language-learning website; we hope that it will eventually become a community-driven platform that brings together all kinds of Turkish learners. As we grow, we aspire to expand our team and introduce dynamic content like podcasts, YouTube channels, and interactive audio dialogues. These additions aim to enhance listening and speaking skills for Turkish learners, providing an immersive experience that goes beyond the written word.
